SUMMARY:Summer General Meeting and Women’s In-Equality Day (Hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, Women’s Equality Day is commemorated on August
26\, when the 19th Amendment was certified. In the League\, we acknowle
dge that the 19th Amendment initially only gave some women the right to
vote and that even today women are still not granted the protection of t
he rights we have fought for\, including voting rights\, reproductive ri
ghts\, and equal pay for equal work. Our speaker this year\, Sally Danie
l of the AAUW\, will speak about some of the current pay inequities that
women are experiencing.\n\nFollowing her talk\, we will hold a brief bu
siness meeting to discuss the League's goals ahead of this year's electi
on and how you can get involved in the League's mission of Empowering Vo
ters\, Defending Democracy.\n\nIf you want to join the meeting online\,
please email SHRLeague@gmail.com for the link.\n\nIf you want to join in
person\, please RSVP by email to jbergstrom@lwvshrmail.org. Please note
\, the Cloud room at Jordan Newby Library at Broad Creek\, (1425 Norches
ter Ave.\, Norfolk\, VA) can only accommodate the first 20 people so I e
ncourage you to consider joining virtually.
